Sean Ahern; Thank you all for the outpouring of support you showed for Sean and Sean's family including our Legion family.  It really showed the love and respect that Sean had in his heart for all of us.
With that being said, we will be helping his family for the foreseeable future with children ages 1-8. Without Sean his family will need some help with getting restarted or adjusting to a very different household. We've started by assisting them with some tasks in their yard and driveway. I will be building a list of items they need a little help with starting today. If anyone would like to help I'll be happy to show them the needs. Whether the needs are small donations or some sweat equity. I'd love to help them repair the kids swing set as it was blown over and damaged. I believe we can repair it with a few hundred dollars for new lumber and some anchors. Replacing it would be much more expensive and they are in need of many other items to help them transition.

On that note;  we would love to help them smooth over their somewhat long driveway with a few loads of runa crush. We reshaped some of the driveway last week with some manpower and very appreciated help from "Straight Line Landscaping" a company owned by one of our SONS, Colin O'Toole. His skid steer was a lifesaver. Good to know great giving people.  We'd love to put 25 or so yards of crush on their driveway this spring. It would greatly help the family keep the mud and dirt out of their house.

Red Dog HMLA-773

Task Force:  Red Dog a Military Documentary of a Marine attack helicopter squadron in Afghanistan 2003-2005.  It was the first show on the new Military Channel.  There will be in person and video link members of the squadron as well as the producer and cameraman to introduce the film and answer questions.  This was the squadron of our own Legion Veteran, Rob “Pyro” Gadjo, Colonel USMC (Retired).  The documentary will be shown with two presentations on Friday, 22nd of March, the documentary will be presented twice at 1300 hours and the second one at 1900 hours.  Location Auburn Public Theater, 8 Exchange Street, Auburn NY 13021 – Both showings are Free for Veterans and $6.00 general admission.  Let’s see if we can get our Legion Family to fill those seats! 

Scholarship Applications
Scholarship applications for the Steen Family Memorial Scholarship and the John Manilla Memorial Scholarship will be available at the Post behind the bar and at the following local schools, Skaneateles, Marcellus, Auburn, Jordan-Elbridge, Moravia, and BOCES.  Applications need to be submitted no later than the 10th of May 2024.

1617 – Pocahontas (Rebecca Rolfe) died of either small pox or pneumonia while in England with her husband, John Rolfe. As Pocahontas and John Rolfe prepared to sail back to Virginia, she died reportedly from the wet English winter. She was buried at the parish church of St. George in Gravesend, England.
1851 – Yosemite Valley was discovered (by non-natives) in California. The 58 men of the Mariposa Battalion under Major James D. Savage were the first whites to enter Yosemite Valley. Their first view of the valley was from the plateau later named Mount Beatitude. They expelled Chief Tenaya and his band of Ahwahneechee Indians. Dr. Bunnell, a physician in the battalion, named the valley Yosemite to honor the local Indians. He did not realize that the word “yohemeti” meant “some of them are killers” and was an insult against the valley people.
